Alice G. (Mayer) Wimer, age 88, resident of Lakota Good Samaritan Society, died Monday April 27, 2015 in Lakota, ND.
Alice Georgia Mayer was born February 27, 1927 at rural Whitman, ND, the daughter of Stanley and Alice (Sirek) Mayer. Alice was raised in the Whitman and Michigan area and is a 1945 graduate of Michigan High School. After graduation she attended Mayville State College and received a Teaching Certificate. Alice taught at a rural school in Dodds Township of Nelson County, ND. Alice met Elmer Wimer who became the love of her life and they married June 16, 1946. They farmed in the Lakota area until Elmer started working in construction and they moved to Brocket, ND in 1973.
Alice worked as a night nurse in the Michigan Home and later became a CNA and worked in the Gronna Nursing Home in Lakota, ND. Alice was a Girl Scout Leader, loved to paint, quilt, bake bread, garden, crochet, and attended to her many house plants. As a resident of Lakota Good Samaritan, Alice loved to visit with staff, visitors, family and she met everyone with humor and quick wit.
Alice is survived by 3 daughters, Janice Haugen of Lincoln, NE, Laurel (Ardell) Nabben of Niagara, ND, and Celeste Kalliokoski of Harwood, ND; 3 sons, Elliott (Charlotte) Wimer of Moffit, ND, Jerome (Renee) Wimer of Milarton, ND, and Darryl (Robin) Wimer of Brocket, ND; 15 grandchildren, Lorna, Sarah Louise, Alicia, Nichole, Wendy, Heath, LeAnn, Randy, Loretta, Gerald, Quincy, Sarah Dawn, Karl, Jaydon, and Jace; 19 great-grandchildren, Amanda, Paul, Christopher, Ian, Audrey, Micheal, Corey, Travis, Chelsey, Lindsay, Austin, Ryan, Hannah, Preston, Liam, Violet, Ethan, Landon, and Ashlyn; 2 brothers, Jim Mayer of St Paul, MN and George Mayer (Ethel Beaver) of Niagara, ND; 4 sisters, Marcella Frandsen of Grand Forks, ND, Blanche Additon of New Iberia, LA, Stella (Jim) Shirek of Lankin, ND, and Judy (Gus) Larson of Wasilla, AK; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Elmer; parents; infant daughter; 3 brothers, Otto Mayer, Stanley Mayer, and Gus Mayer; and 1 sister, RoseAnn Erickson.
The Funeral Service will be held at United Lutheran Church of Brocket, ND, on Saturday May 2, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. Officiating will be Reverend Jodi Myrvik. Music will be provided by Jason Flom. Lunch will be served following the service by Brocket WELCA and at 1:00 p.m. Alice’s interment will be in the Lakota Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Heath Wimer, Randy Wimer, Jerry Nabben, Karl Kalliokoski, Jaydon Teckenburg, and Jace Wimer. Honorary casketbearers will be Lorna Thronsedt, Sarah Wesdorp, Alicia Haugen, Nichole Shin, Wendy Wimer, LeAnn Wimer, Loretta Brossart, Quincy Simon, and Sarah Simon. Family and friends are invited to the Lakota Legion after Alice’s interment for a social gathering.
Visitation will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota on Friday May 1, 2015 beginning at 5:00 p.m. with Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
