Allan Larry Hejlik, 87, Lakota, ND, passed away on Friday, February 13, 2026 after a short illness at CHI St. Alexius Hospital, Devils Lake, ND.
Allan was born July 20, 1938 in Ramsey County, North Dakota, the son of William J and Caroline (Pecka) Hejlik. He grew up on a farm south of Lakota and attended rural schools for his early years, graduating in 1956 from Lakota High School.
Allan was married to Ruth Flom on March 25, 1956. They farmed south of Lakota, growing wheat, barley, flax, oats and sunflowers, as well as raising cattle. Four children were born to this marriage: Kent, Kathy, Colleen and Candace. Allan never fully retired from farming and enjoyed helping his son and grandson with harvest as recently as the fall of 2025.
When Allan could take a break from the farm, he enjoyed fishing, playing darts and shooting pool. Family was important to Allan, and he cherished the times spent with his brother, Laddie and Laddie's family.
Allan married Elaine Thompson on March 27, 1986. Allan and Elaine enjoyed going to the casino, including trips to Las Vegas, and spending time with friends. After Elaine passed away in 2012, Allan continued to live in his own home and be independent with the help of his son, Kent and grandson, William. Highlights of his day were having coffee with friends at Sunlac and shopping at Dollar General.
Allan is survived by son, Kent (Pat) Hejlik of Lakota, and daughters, Kathy (Ron) Sandford of Fargo, Colleen (Terry) West of Wahpeton and Candace Hejlik of West Fargo, grandchildren, Sarah (Mike) Franklin of Bismarck, William (Kristi) Hejlik of Lakota, Cole (Lahren) Sandford of Colorado, Braden (Shelby) West of New Braunfels, Texas, and Cody West (Caytlin Bruns) of Wahpeton, and one great-granddaughter, Thea Franklin. Also surviving Allan are stepsons, Mike, Brad and Gary (Kerry) and their children and grandchildren, Laddie's wife, Bev, and their five daughters, Pam, Patty, Peggy, Paula and Brenda.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Elaine, his parents, his brother Laddie, a sister Henrietta in infancy and a stepdaughter, Denise.
Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 16, 2026 at Grace Lutheran Church, Lakota, ND with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m.
Burial will be at the Lakota Cemetery, in the spring.
