Amanda Hurum

Amanda Hurum, age 89, resident of Aneta, ND passed away Sunday, July 18, 2010 at the Aneta Parkview Health Center in Aneta.

Amanda was born February 17, 1921 in Honefoss, Norway the daughter of Martin and Klara (Walther) Gruer. She grew up and attended country school in Norway. Amanda worked at a boarding hotel in Ringrika, Norway. In 1948 she met her future husband Arne Hurum when he returned to visit his homeland in Norway. Amanda made the ten-day crossing and arrived in the United States in December of 1948. She married Arne Hurum on June 23, 1949 in Northwood, ND. After their marriage they lived and farmed in Romness Township, Griggs County. Arne passed away in August of 1980. Amanda continued to live on the farm until moving into Aneta in 2007. She was a member of Ottawa Lutheran Church along with the ladies aid, Sunday school teacher and treasurer for many years. She was a 4-H leader, active in the Homemakers Club, Friendship Club and Sons of Norway in Cooperstown. Amanda enjoyed watching birds, baking and had an extensive collection of salt and pepper shakers.

Amanda will be missed and remembered by her daughter Sonja (Gary Offerdahl) Vig of Hatton, ND, 2 grandsons Adam (Heather Hanson) Vig of Hatton, ND and Neil (Jennifer Potter) Vig of St. Cloud, MN, 3 great grandchildren Lillian Vig, Brendan Potter and Faith Potter, along with nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous other relatives in Norway.

Amanda was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

Funeral services for Amanda will be Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 2:00 PM in the Ottawa Lutheran Church, rural Aneta, ND. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 20, 2010 from 6 PM to 8 PM in the Cooperstown Funeral Chapel and continue one hour prior to services in the church. Officiating will be Reverend Kenneth Iverson. Organist will be Judy Rusten and soloist will be Allen Rusten. Casketbearers will be Alden Hegna, Scott Rusten, Arnold Lee, Rodney Brudvig, Jon Sletten, Eddie Vig, John Mikkelson & Olley Eberhardt. Interment will be in the Ottawa Cemetery. Arrangements with the Cooperstown Funeral Chapel.
