The woman. The myth. The legend. Annette "Gertrude Hayes" Sampson passed away in her home on Saturday, September 16, 2017.

Daughter to Ethel "Sally" (Keen) Brandenburg and William "Rusty" Hayes, she was born March 21, 1952 in Tacoma, Washington. She went on to have 10 beautiful children, 18 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. Annette was known to many people as either "Mom" or "Grandma" throughout the years. She invited everyone to her table. Annette always opened her door, her ear, and her heart to anyone needing it. She did many things in her short but full 65 years. She went to beauty school, was a nurse’s aide, waitress, bartender, bar owner, homemaker, and homemade fry cook extraordinaire. Her favorite job of all was Grandma. Annette loved to tell stories, going fishing, camping, playing bingo, pinochle, loved trying to hit it big at the slots with her kids, but most of all she was a treasure hunter. She could see the potential in almost any item and envisioned what she could do to make it beautiful again. It made her so happy when she could pass them on to other people. Anyone that knew her knew that Christmas was her absolute favorite time of year. It was always an exciting time for whoever was to receive one of her famous story gifts that year. She will be missed greatly by all of those who knew and loved her.

Annette is preceded in death by her sons Justin, Jason, and Jamey, daughter Julie, great grandson Brayden, husband Barry Sampson, and her beloved dog Shelby.

She leaves behind her children, daughter Tammy (Byron) Haugen, son Shannon (Lori) Lauckner, daughter Lisa Lauckner, son Travis (Caroline) Lauckner, daughter Tracea Lauckner, son DuWayne (Katie Olafson) Rickford, and her loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Annette will be Friday, September 22, 2017 at 3:00 P.M. in the Zion Lutheran Church, rural Binford, ND. Visitation will be one hour prior to services in the church. Interment will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery.
