Ardis Swendseid

Ardis J. Swendseid, age 86, resident of Devils Lake , ND , formerly of Dahlen , ND , died Sunday, May 27, 2012 at Heartland Care Center in Devils Lake .

Ardis Jeanette Johnson was born August 21, 1925 in Cleveland Township of Walsh County, near Dahlen , ND , the daughter of Julius and Alma (Helgeson) Johnson. She was raised on the family farm near Dahlen and attended country school #48. Ardis married Wayne "Sonny" Swendseid on April 4, 1945 in Crookston , MN . They farmed together for many years near Dahlen. Ardis also cooked at the Dahlen School and drove school bus. She was a member of the Dahlen Lutheran Church and choir, and was active in the ladies aid. She loved to sing in the choir and the Dahlen Quartet. She would bring her guitar and sing with the choir at all of the area nursing homes, as this was a great pleasure for her. Ardy was always there to lend a helping hand, and bake her delicious doughnuts. She and Sonny moved to Devils Lake in 2006. Sonny died November 13, 2008 . Ardy loved her family and will always be remembered as Grandma Barn to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She will be greatly missed by her 3 children, Arlyce & her husband Rick Trenda of Devils Lake , Arvid Swendseid & fiancé Wanda Bakke of Edinburg , ND , and Sarah Bergeron of Devils Lake ; 10 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; her brother, Ivan & his wife Delores Johnson of Mayville , ND ; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 3 sisters, Irene Johnson, Claire Sweet, and Evie Waith; and 2 brothers, Donnie Johnson and Gerald Johnson.

The Funeral Service for Ardis will be held at the Dahlen Lutheran Church on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery at Dahlen. Visitation will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota on Tuesday beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a time of sharing memories of Ardis at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Wednesday, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
