Arlene Horrell

Arlene Kay (Skramstad) Horrell, age 73, of Cooperstown, ND passed away Monday, February 3, 2014 at Sanford Health in Fargo, ND following a stroke.

Arlene was born January 2, 1941 at Cass Lake, MN to Art and Mae (Jungels) Skramstad. She attended Romness Township rural school and graduated from Cooperstown High School in 1958. After high school she joined the Women's Army Corps (WAC), the women's branch of the US Army, where she was trained in several medical and dental technologies. She took great pride in her veteran status and always enjoyed meeting and spending time with other veterans. She went on to complete a Bachelor of Science degree in Special Education and later also studied Nursing.

She married Ronald D. Horrell, May 25, 1963 at Winchester, VA. They had one daughter, Joy Jolene. Arlene later married Jim Caffrey.

Arlene was confirmed at Ottawa Lutheran Church rural Aneta, ND and later helped to found the Salina Reform Church in Salina, PA. She was also a generous supporter of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

She is survived by her daughter, Joy Horrell, Greensburg, PA; and four sisters,
Patsy Klubben, Cooperstown, ND; Sandra Banks, Salt Lake City, UT; Sharon Belgarde, Marana, AZ; and Holly (Stuart) Walen, Glenfield, ND.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Donald, Art Jr. and Larry.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at Cooperstown Funeral Chapel in Cooperstown ND, with the Rev. Jerry Rosin officiating. Interment will be at the Cooperstown Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Cooperstown Senior Center, Box 461 in Cooperstown, ND.
