Arlene Zacha, age 87, resident of Lakota, ND, formerly of rural Michigan, ND, died Thursday, March 8, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Center in Lakota.

Arlene was born December 9, 1924 on her parents farm near Lankin, ND, the daughter of Thomas and Pauline (Maresh) Hodny. She was raised on the farm and attended country school in the area. She began high school in Pisek then attended Michigan High School, graduating in 1943. Arlene married Gerald C. Zacha on February 19, 1945. They lived and farmed together all of their life near Michigan. Arlene was a 4-H Leader for many years. She enjoyed fishing, dancing, and was an avid card player. She and Gerald loved to travel and spent many winters in Texas. She was a member of the Michigan Lutheran Church. Gerald died August 2, 2002. Arlene continued living on the farm and eventually moved to the Good Samaritan Center in December 2008.

Arlene is survived by 4 children, Larry (Deb) Zacha of Michigan, ND, Marge (Al) Irwin of Grand Forks, ND, Judy (Rod) Alme of Grafton, ND, and Deb (Steve) Flaten of Grand Forks, ND; 14 grandchildren, Amy Zacha Worden, Brian Zacha, Kevin Zacha, Tim Zacha, Stacy Irwin Orro, Marie Irwin Remz, Matt Irwin, Craig Alme, Kristi Alme Longtin, Ryan Alme, Stephanie Flaten Solway, Sarah Flaten Beasley, Cindy Flaten, and Rachel Flaten; 25 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Annie Adamson of Fargo, ND; 2 brothers, Bennie Hodny of Park River, ND, and John (Sandy) Hodny of Lakota, ND; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Lucille Zacha; brother, Jerry Hodny; sister, Marcella Brandvold; and great-granddaughter, Lillianna Worden.

The Funeral Service will be held at the Michigan Lutheran Church on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be the Reverend Peter Horn. The organist will be Paula Narum and the soloist will be Wanda Mengelkoch. Interment will be in the Michigan Cemetery. The casketbearers will be Arlene's grandchildren. Visitation will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota on Monday beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
