Arnold Sundquist, Jr

Arnold Sundquist Jr., also known as Arnie, June or Fred, was born on December 27, 1925 to Arnold Sr. and Inga (Hovde) Sundquist at their home in Ora Township, Aneta , North Dakota . Arnie attended country school at Ora # 2 and graduated from Aneta High School in 1944. He farmed with his Dad until 1950, when he married MaryAnn Dragland. They farmed near Finley, ND from 1950 to 1954. From 1954 to 1958 Arnie was employed at the Agronomy Seed Farm at Casselton, ND. In 1958 Arnie and his family moved back to Aneta and farmed there until 1996. From 1975 to 1996 Arnie and his son Paul farmed together. He served on the Crop Improvement Association Board, the Ora Township Board and the Sundahl Lutheran Church council. After Arnie retired from farming, his hobby was recycling iron, enjoying many trips hauling iron to Canada, as well as East Grand Forks and Thief River Falls, MN. Arnie and MaryAnn celebrated 62 years of marriage in June. During his farming years he enjoyed fabricating many things from scratch including a rock picker, cultivator, snow blower and his dream was to invent a perpetual motion machine that he never quite finished. He died on August 2, 2012 at the Aneta Parkview Health Center.

Arnold is survived by his wife MaryAnn, Aneta and four children: Paul (Peggy) Sundquist of Northwood, Karen Olson (Ove Aaser) of McVille, Dan (Bobbi) Sundquist of Thornton, CO and Julie (Dave) Kollstedt of Fairfax, VA; six grandchildren, Andrea Olson, Adria Olson, Jennifer (Jason) Thorenson, Erika (Josh) Gruenberg, Josh (Jessica) Sundquist and Grant (Ashley) Sundquist; six great-grandchildren; Chiara, Jacob, Olivia, Kale, Ryker and Jayla; brother John (Audrey) Sundquist, sisters Ina Thorsgard, Carol Manthei and Doris (Gary) Johnson, inlaws Grace VonRuden, Dorothy (John) Stevens, Mavis (Levern) Dahl, Juel (Sharon) Dragland, Don (Rosalie) Dragland, Earl Tommerdahl and Ben (Marsha) VonRuden, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Carl, brothers in law Ernest Thorsgard, Leroy Dragland, Chris Dragland and Sidney Dragland, sisters in law Joyce VonRuden, Gladys Peterson, Hazel Rust and Etta Tommerdahl, grandson Evan Sundquist, nieces Joy Thompson and Sarina Johnson.

Funeral services for Arnold will be held Monday, August 6, 2012 at 2:00 PM in the Sundahl Lutheran Church, Aneta, ND. Officiating will be Reverend Kenneth Iverson. Organist will be Joan Huso. Visitation will be Sunday, August 5, 2012 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM with a prayer service at 4:00 PM in the Sundahl Lutheran Church, Aneta. Interment will be in the Silent Hill Cemetery, Aneta.
