Arvid Munson

Arvid Loren Munson, age 88, resident of Lakota, ND, passed away Thursday, July 5, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Society, where he has resided since March of 2009.

Arvid was born September 16, 1923 in Lakota, ND, the son of Malvin and Gladys ( Livingston ) Munson. Arvid attended country school in Dodds Township, and graduated from Lakota High School in 1940. Arvid and Maxine Bakke were united in marriage at Lakota Lutheran Church on June 20, 1948. They lived on the farm until moving to Lakota in 1976. Maxine passed away in July of 1983. Arvid married Betty Skjerseth Noland in May of 1991. Betty passed away in September of 2002. Arvid farmed his entire life in Dodds Township of Nelson County, raising small grains and livestock. Arvid was a member of Lakota Lutheran Church. He served on the church council and served on the Dodds Township Board for many years. Arvid enjoyed woodworking and carpentry work, and often volunteered his time and talents to help family and friends with projects in their homes. He also enjoyed restoring John Deere tractors with grandson, Mike. He continued his love of farming with his garden and yard in Lakota.

Arvid is survived by his son, John (Phyllis) Munson of Jamestown, ND, and his daughter, Ruth (Rodney) Stevens of Lakota, ND; 5 grandchildren, Jennifer (Vern) Ryan, Kenneth (Shellann) Munson, and Kary (Michael) Moltzan, all of Ray, ND, Rachel (Brian) Quam of Lakota, ND, and Michael Stevens of Ray, ND; 12 great grandchildren, Elizabeth, Klae, Colton, Emily, and Cody Ryan, Jacob Munson, Kylar, McKenna, and Natasha Walter, Grace, Grant, and Grady Quam; 1 brother, Merlin (Ruby) Munson of Grand Forks, ND; a sister-in-law, Doris Berg of Billings, MT; 2 nieces and 5 nephews. He is also survived by Betty's family: Robert (Donna) Noland of Brookings, SD, Sandra (Ken) Nelson, David (Renee) Noland, Barbara (Mark) Morford, all of the Minneapolis area, and Michael (Jean) Noland of Grand Forks, ND; 11 step-grandchildren and 13 step-great grandchildren.

Arvid was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, and a step-grandchild.

Arvid's Funeral Service will be held at Lakota Lutheran Church on Monday, July 9, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be the Reverend Peter Horn. The organist will be Karen Fowler and special music will be sung by Arvid's grandchildren and great grandchildren. Interment will be in the Lakota Cemetery. The casketbearers will be Kenneth Munson, Michael Stevens, Brian Quam, Vern Ryan, Michael Moltzan, Nathan Noland, Lee Noland, Jason Noland, and Anthony Morford. Visitation will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota on Sunday, beginning at 3:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Monday, beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
