Augusta A. Larson, age 92, resident of Lakota, ND, died Friday, September 25, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Society in Lakota, ND.

Augusta Larson, fondly remembered as “Gussie”, was born January 24, 1923 in Budapest, Hungary, the daughter of Frank and Augusta (Toth) Boleska. She was educated at the University of Budapest. Due to the bombing in Budapest during World War II, Augusta was sent first to the countryside of Hungary and then forced to go to Germany where she worked until the end of the war. She was sponsored by the Catholic Church as a Displaced Person and sent to work at the Sloan CafAC. in Lakota, ND in 1950. There she met her husband, Ed Larson, and second family, Lillie Larson, Elsie Benson, and Esther Benson. She married Ed Larson on December 31, 1956 in Devils Lake, ND and received her U.S. citizenship in 1957. Augusta’s work career included nine years at the ASCS. In 1963 she opened Augusta’s Gift Shop, which she operated for eight years. She then spent twenty years as a bookkeeper for Zacha Plumbing and Heating of Lakota. Augusta’s political career included serving as Lakota’s first female City Council member, a position she held for six years. She was District Chairperson for the Republican Party, served on the Republican Nominating Party, and was listed in “Who’s Who among North Dakota Decision-Makers”. She also served her community through her activities as a member of the Lakota Lutheran Church.

Augusta was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Larson; mother, Augusta Boleska; father, Frank Boleska; and five brothers.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Barbara Lepen; three nephews living in Canada; four nephews who live in Hungary; and her many wonderful friends.

The Funeral Service will be held at Lakota Lutheran Church of Lakota, ND, on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota on Monday, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and will continue at the church on Tuesday for 1 hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Lakota Cemetery.
