Augustine Henry Mayer, 77, of Michigan, ND, died August 12, 2011 at his home with Dorothy at his side. He was born December 10, 1933 on the family farm in Perth Township of Walsh County, near Lankin, the son of Joseph and Mary (Bina) Mayer. He was raised on the farm, attended country school, and graduated from Michigan High School in 1952. He attended the State School of Science at Wahpeton. He joined the U.S. Army in October of 1953 and served 6 years in Germany . He moved to Lakeville , MN where he lived for 40 years and worked for Unisys. He married Janice Hart in July of 1966. She died August of 1983. Gus retired and moved to Whitman, ND, eventually moving to Michigan, ND. He was a wonderful, kind, and patient man. He enjoyed playing cards and dancing.


Gus is survived by his loving son, Anthony & his wife Susanne and grandson Aiden Joseph of Mankato, MN; special friend, Dorothy Johnson and her children Denise Fuglem of Larimore and her children Kasey Hannestad, Jennifer, Nicki, Derek, Justin, and Brianna, Laurie Rainsberry of Lakota and her children Dustin Jorde and Katie Rose Rainsberry; sister, Marian (Lavern) Linnell of Killdeer, ND; brothers, Tom (Dorothy) Mayer of Stetsonville, WI and Joe (Loretta) Mayer of St. John, ND; sister-in-law, Marian Mayer of Grand Forks, ND; brothers-in-law, Raymond (Barb) Hart and Maynard Hart, both of Deer River, MN, and Lyle Howatt of Langdon, ND; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice; brothers, Richard (Blanche) Mayer, Robert Mayer, Gordon (Marian) Mayer, and Donald & Julius in infancy; sisters, Genevieve (Lyle) Howatt and Beatrice in infancy; his parents; and his mother and father-in-law, Alvine & Mayme Hart.

The Funeral Service for Gus will be held at Michigan Lutheran Church on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Bloomington, MN. Visitation will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota on Monday, beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Tuesday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
