Beatrice Sobak

Beatrice C. Sobak, age 96, of Edmore, ND, died Saturday, April 7, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Society in Lakota, ND.

Beatrice Constance Mortenson was born August 29, 1915 to Thor and Inger (Skaarland) Mortenson in Northfield Township of Ramsey County, ND. She attended rural schools there until her parents moved to a farm near Edmore, ND. Beatrice graduated from Edmore High School in 1934. She married Melvin E. Sobak on June 14, 1937 in Devils Lake, ND. They lived and farmed near Edmore all of their lives. Beatrice and Melvin spent many winters in California and Texas with their son and his family. Beatrice operated the Edmore Drive Inn for several years after her children were grown, and was employed by the Edmore Johnson Store for a number of years. She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid. She was a wonderful lefse maker that could keep two griddles busy at once. Beatrice enjoyed making potato dumpling and ham dinners for her family and they always included three kinds of pie, one for Robin, one for Douglas, and one for Brenda, as they each had a favorite. She embroidered dozens of sets of dish towels. She enjoyed playing cards, doing word puzzles, and was a faithful follower of the Minnesota Twins for many years. She took great delight in her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

Beatrice will be deeply missed by her daughter, Pat (Bob) Freije of Edmore; 4 grandchildren, Robin Aanstad of West Fargo, Douglas (Bonnie) Freije of Edmore, Brenda Freije of Laurel, MD, and Shawn (Shelly) Sobak of Houston, TX; 7 great grandchildren, Deidre Aanstad of Minneapolis, MN, Bobby (Heather) Aanstad of Edmore, Laura Beth Aanstad of Fargo, Ashtin, Fallyn & Morgan Freije of Edmore, and Nathan Sobak of MT; 2 great-great grandchildren, Tanner Aanstad and Austin Jenniges of Edmore; 2 sisters-in-law, Esther Sobak of Fargo and Joan Mortenson of Okema, OK; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Melvin on April 16, 1995; her son, James; sister, Mildred Tucker; and brother, Orlin Mortenson.

The Funeral Service will be held at Concordia Lutheran Church of Edmore on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be the Reverend Don Reynolds. The organist will be John Martinson and the soloist will be Ashtin Freije. Interment will be in the Edmore Cemetery. The casketbearers will be Douglas Freije, Bobby Aanstad, Don Nielsen, Bryce Hoime, Edval Helle, and Vernie Nyland. Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday, beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
