Beth Sarah Varty, age 60, of Tolna ND passed away on March 19th, 2026. Beth was born on November 2, 1965 to David and Sharon Cuthbertson. She graduated from MayPort High School In 1984. She married Mark DeMoss and they welcomed their daughter Samantha on Feb 20, 1988. She married Gary Gummer on August 31, 2001 who was another father to Samantha. She married Bill Vary on November 20, 2010. Bill gave Beth her wish of dying at home and lovingly cared for her day and night with the assistance of HIA Hospice in her final days.
Beth worked all her life at various jobs some including SRS Commodities, Floyds Bar, Paula’s Café, Friends and Neighbors Café in Tolna, and Red Willow Bible Camp. She earned a 4-year degree in University Studies at Mayville State University. She had a smile that could light up a room and a contagious laugh. She was an exceptionally wonderful grandma to her granddaughters Adleigh and Alivia Fugleberg. She loved welcoming the grandchildren of her husband Bill into her life as her own as well, Julian, Alivia, Bjorn, and Xia. She will be incredibly missed.
She is survived by her husband Bill of Tolna, ND; daughter Samantha (Jeremy) Fugleberg and their daughters Adleigh and Olivia of Mayville, ND; stepdaughter Victoria Varty of Chicago, IL; stepdaughter Lindsay (Thomas) Hartwell and their children Julian and Alivia of Chicago, IL; stepson Forrest (Anna) Varty and their children Bjorn and Xyla of Naples, FL. Her father David Cuthbertson of Hillsboro, ND; stepdad Larry Dakken who she also considered a father of Mayville, ND; sister DeAnn Wika of Fargo; ND; sister Christy Sorenson of Roseberg, OR; step brother Derek (Jenny) Dakken of Thief River Falls, MN; stepsister Heather (Matt) Satrom of Mayville, ND; stepsister Lori (Rod) Baker of Makoti, ND; and stepsister Melissa (Mike) Clancy of West Lake Ida, MN.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Sharon Dakken; stepmother, Kathy Cuthbertson; late husband Gary Gummer; her beloved aunt and best friend Nancy Idso; uncle, Bradley Balstad; uncle, Bobby Balstad; uncle Ronald Cuthbertson; uncle Morris Cuthbertson; and nephew, Cullen Rude.
Beth will be laid to rest at the North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery in Mandan, ND at 3:00 P.M. on Friday, May 8th, 2026.
