Betty M. “Dolly” Devlin of Michigan, ND passed away on March 26, 2015 at the age of 84.


Dolly was born December 14, 1930 in Aneta, ND to Dan and Lorenze (Gesvold) Hillesland. She graduated from Aneta High School in 1948. She was a telephone operator in Aneta for 5 years after graduation. Dolly was united in marriage to Jack Devlin on September 6, 1952 in Finley, ND at St. Olaf Catholic Church. They moved to Michigan, ND in 1963. Dolly worked as a bookkeeper at Memorial Park Home in Michigan. Jack passed away in 1983. Dolly worked at the Sunlac Inn in Lakota for 4 years and Lambs Bank, later First United Bank in Michigan, for 12 years. She retired in 2001.

Dolly loved gardening, caring for animals, golfing, and spending time with her family and friends. She played piano/organ for the church for 60 years. Dolly was the ‘unofficial’ animal shelter for Michigan taking in and loving many stray animals.


Dolly is survived by her boys, Scott Devlin of Michigan, ND, Mike Devlin (Jayne) of Polson, MT, Tim Devlin (Arliss) of Michigan, ND, and Ben Devlin of Grand Forks, ND; her grandchildren, Courtney (Carl) Caron, Maggie (Derrick) Marquart, Cody (Teresa) Devlin, Cassie Devlin (Brady), Jeremy Devlin, Timothy Devlin and Jeffery Devlin; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Shirley (Dave) McKenzie; brother-in-law, Dale Kleven; many nieces and nephews; and a special thanks to Betty Paplow, Pam Burkland, and Barb Kjorsvik for their loving care.


Dolly was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sister, Dorothy Kleven.

The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Lawrence O’Toole Catholic Church of Michigan, ND, on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in the Michigan Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota on Tuesday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and will continue at the Church on Wednesday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
