Beverly J. Nelson, age 78, of Brocket, ND, died Saturday, September 21, 2013 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks ND.

Bev, born June 13, 1935, was the daughter of Alvin Anderson and Hazel (Mennie) Anderson Bragg. She graduated from Devils Lake Central High School in 1953. In 1957, she married Rudolph (Rudy) Nelson, and they farmed for many years. After farming, she enjoyed her second career at the bank in Michigan.

Bev was a longtime member and leader at Sarnia United Lutheran Church and Farmers Union, and volunteer for many community organizations. Highly creative, she enjoyed quilting, sewing, crocheting, and cross-stitch. She loved music, reading, and current events. She will be remembered for her smile, generosity, and positive outlook.

Bev was a caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She will be remembered and deeply missed by her son Cory (LaRae) Nelson of Missouri City, Texas; son Dana Nelson (Colleen Gleason) of Farmville, Virginia; daughter Kristie Nelson-Neuhaus (Paul Neuhaus) of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and four grandchildren, Kate Nelson, Eric Nelson, Alma Neuhaus, and Miranda Neuhaus. She is also survived by her brother, Leonard Anderson and sister, Ruth Bednarz, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Rudy, sisters Lorene Weber and Marjorie Vogel, and brother Russell Anderson.

The family appreciates memorials in Bev’s memory to West Forest Cemetery, Lakota Ambulance Service or the American Heart Association.

The Funeral Service for Bev will be held at Sarnia United Lutheran Church of Whitman, ND, on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. Officiating will be the Reverend Sue Mackey. The organist will be Jason Flom with special music by Alma Neuhaus and the Dahlen family. Interment will be in the West Forest Cemetery. The casketbearers will be Paul Neuhaus, Blair Moe, Fred Thomson, Dennis Dahlen, Kurt Stenberg, and Clay Rhoden. Visitation will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota, ND, on Monday beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Tuesday, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
