Carl M. Sandager, age 86, of Lakota, ND, died Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
Carl Morton Sandager was born April 8, 1929 in Marshall, MN, the son of Reverend Christian and Clara (Ellingson) Sandager. Carl joined the U.S. Air Force December 31, 1948. He served as an Airman during the Korean War, serving in Guam and Okinawa. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Airman 1st Class on September 17, 1952. After his discharge, he attended NDSU and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agricultural Education. Carl married Delores Olson on August 25, 1956 at United Lutheran Church of Brocket, ND. From 1957 until 1959, Carl taught Vocational Agriculture class in Fessenden, ND. The family moved to rural Lakota in 1959, where they raised their family and farmed together until Carl’s retirement in 1994. Carl and Delores lived on the farm until October of 2011 when they moved into town. Carl was a member of the Royal O. Gray American Legion Post #61 at Brocket. He was active at United Lutheran Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher, President of the Church Council, and active in church choir. Bringing quality water to rural North Dakota was a passion of Carl’s. He was a founding board member of Tri-County Rural Water District.
Carl will be deeply missed by his wife, Delores Sandager of Lakota; 3 children, David (Perpetua) Sandager of Snohomish, WA and their children Karin & Rebecca, Cheryl Sandager of Devils Lake, ND, and Kirsten (Dwain) Fagerlund of Crookston, MN and their children Naomi, Noah & Brita; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers; and 3 sisters.
The Funeral Service will be held in the United Lutheran Church of Brocket on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. Officiating will be the Reverend Don Reynolds. The pianist will be Karen Fowler and the soloist will be Terry Ellingson. Interment will be in the Hoff Lutheran Cemetery. The casketbearers will be Tom Anderson, Chuck Bucholz, Jeff Johnson, Terry Olson, Michael Olson, Tom Wilberscheid, Bill Jostad, Paul Sandager, and John Sandager. Military Honors will be provided by the Royal O. Gray American Legion Post #61 of Brocket. Visitation will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota on Monday, August 10, 2015 beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Tuesday, from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.
