Carol Eileen Haney was born November 21, 1925 in Clearbrook, MN, the daughter of Clyde and Amanda (Lund) Haney and grew to womanhood on the farm.  She graduated from Clearbrook High School in 1944.

Carol moved to Minot, ND and it was there that she met Robert Johnson.  They married on October 21, 1947 in Fergus Falls, MN.  They made their home in Watertown, SD, where they welcomed their daughter, Kathleen and son, Douglas.  They moved to Grand Forks, ND, where they welcomed their Randall in 1965.  Robert passed away in March of 1974.  After his passing, Carol and her widowed sister moved into an apartment to share costs.  They moved to Petersburg, ND in 1995, then to Lakota in 2008.

Carol was avid reader, seamstress, and puzzler.  She always had a book beside her chair and was a big fan of the puzzles in the newspaper as well as word searches and crossword puzzle books.  She worked at Diana Hughes and Northwest Fabrics in Grand Forks for many years.  She sewed clothes for her kids and oldest granddaughters and took pride in sewing clothes for their Barbie dolls.  Carol was a great baker as well.  She always had a cookie jar or tupperware container full of sweet treats.  She was known lovingly as “Little Grandma” because of her petite stature.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, Merwyn and Wallace; sister, Shirley Sonterre; and son-in-law, Dale Hanssen.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Hanssen of Larimore, ND; sons, Doug and wife, Nancy, of Wichita, KS and Randy and wife, Connie, of Lakota, ND; grandchildren, Angela (David) Steffan, Michigan, ND, Amber (Sean) Rauschendorfer, Grand Forks, ND, Jamie (Megan) Hanssen, Niagara, ND, Ian (Sarah) Johnson, Lakota, ND, Miranda Johnson, Lakota, ND, and McKayla (Chase) Smith of Lakota, ND; great grandchildren, Destiny, Layla, Seth, Kylie, and Eden Steffan, Brayden, Kaylee, and Kenzie Rauschendorfer, Brooklyn and Zayne Johnson, Hunter Johnson, and Maverick and Octavia Smith; her sister, Mavis Szabla of the Twin Cities, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
