Charles John Liffrig (“Jack”) died peacefully March 11, 2017 at the Maple View Memory Care Center in Grand Forks. He was born August 25, 1937 in Makoti, ND to Charles and Agnes Liffrig. Jack was the youngest of three children. He graduated high school in Makoti and spent one year in California before joining the U.S. Air Force in 1956. He served in Newfoundland, Canada during peacetime. After his discharge from the military, he returned to Minot, ND until taking a job in the Civil Service at the Grand Forks Air Force Base. He later joined the Army Corps of Engineers until retiring in 1992.
Jack married Lois Newman on June 17, 1961. During their fifty-five years of marriage, Jack and Lois lived in Grand Forks, Hatton, and Larimore, ND, where they raised their family. Jack was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan who loved spending time with his friends, telling jokes, and playing golf at the Larimore Golf Club.
Jack loved his family and is survived by his wife, Lois; son, Cory and his wife Leslie Burke; son, Troy and his wife Lisa; and daughter, Lynae and her husband Kevin Sundre; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Joanne Starleaf and Jeanne Rensch.
A private family service will be held. Burial will be at Bellevue Cemetery, Larimore, ND.
In lieu of flowers, we request that memorials be given to Alzheimer’s research organizations.
