Chester Bjornson, 84, Binford, ND passed away Thursday, March 14, 2013 at the Griggs County Care Center, Cooperstown N.D.
Chester Allen Bjornson was born July 14, 1928, the son of Albert and Amanda (Asmus)
Bjornson at the family farmhouse in Rosendal Township, rural Griggs County. He attended school in the area. On June 30, 1954, Chester was united in marriage to Dorothy Biggerstaff at the Bjornson home, where they continued to live, farm and raise their children. In 1985, the couple retired and moved to Red Willow Lake. They entered the care facility in 2012.
Chester was a loyal member of his community. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Zion Lutheran Cemetery Assoc., Binford Senior Citizens, square dancing clubs, farm and wildlife organizations. Chester represented the old "prairie-frontiersman". He was a talented hunter, fisherman, and trapper. He had many successful trap lines and hunts. Chester was also a skilled card player; in tournaments or just with friends and family. He enjoyed teaching games to his grandkids, watching area sports teams, and drinking coffee with his neighbors and friends. He loved music, singing, and dancing. He treasured Dorothy, his perfect dancing partner for 58 years, who passed away January 30, 2013.
Chester is survived by many family members including his children and their spouses: JoAnne (Gilbert) Black, Grace City, N.D.; Alan (Lyn) Bjornson, Mandan, N.D.; Barry Bjornson, Alexandria, MN.; Robert (Diane) Bjornson, Horace, N.D.; 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Madelyn (Mac) Halvorson, Binford, N.D. and Darlyne Nordstrom, Lakeville, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Dorothy, brother Walter, sisters Edna, Wilma, and Kathleen.
Funeral services for Chester will be held Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 11:00 am in Trinity Lutheran Church of Binford. Officiating will be Reverend Kara Wiechmann. Organist will be Theresa Fiebiger and soloist will be Paul Adrian, Jr. Bearers will be Jessica Johnson, Gavin Black, Amanda Gill, Travis Black, Emily Remmick, Ryan Black, Brady Bjornson & Joey Bjornson. Honorary bearers will be Chester's extended family and friends represented by George Berger and Jerome Berger. Visitation will be Friday, March 22, 2013 from 6 pm to 7 pm with a prayer service at 7 pm in the Cooperstown Funeral Chapel and continue one hour prior to services in the church. Spring interment will be in the Binford Cemetery.
