Obituary

Clark Sampson, age 88, resident of Edmore, ND, died Monday, May 11, 2026 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.

Clark Owen Sampson was born November 10, 1937 in Devils Lake, ND, the youngest son of Abner and Mabel (Trimble) Sampson. He lived on the family farm until 1952, when the family moved to Edmore. He attended grade school in Triumph Township and graduated from Edmore High School in 1956. Clark farmed with his father and brothers, Abner and Milton. He continued farming with his sons, Owen and Ned, and grandson Ethan, until officially retiring in 2022. After retirement he continued helping on the farm where he could, including driving grain cart during harvest, until fall 2024.

Clark married Elanda Lou Howes on October 24, 1970 at United Methodist Church in Edmore. They resided in Edmore until May 1974, when they moved to the farm south of Edmore where Clark’s parents had lived. He resided there up until his death.

Clark enjoyed many activities and hobbies throughout his life. He was active in sports during his school years, playing baseball and basketball. He was a member of the Edmore Curling Club. One of his proudest curling achievements was when his team from Edmore won the US Men’s National Curling Championship and represented the United States at the Men’s World Curling Championship in Mageve, France in 1971, winning bronze. He was also a member of the North Dakota Senior Men’s Championship teams in 1989, 1991, 1992 and 1993. Clark enjoyed playing pool and darts and was active in local leagues. He was a member of the Edmore Concordia Lutheran Church. Clark also enjoyed hunting, fishing (including trips to Canada and Minnesota with friends and brothers), camping, reading, watching westerns, hosting family gatherings and picnics with Lou, and spending time with family and friends.

Clark will be deeply missed by his 4 children, Owen (Michella) Sampson of Edmore, Christine Bushy of Moorhead, MN, Ned Sampson of Edmore, and Ellen Sampson of Rochester, MN; 1 brother, Frank Sampson of Boulder, CO; and 3 grandchildren, Lauren Sampson, Ethan Sampson, and Jordyn Bushy.

Clark was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lou; brothers, Abner Jr., Milton, and Douglas; and sisters-in-law, Jackie and Lyn.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Concordia Lutheran Church of Edmore or Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, May 22, 2026 at Concordia Lutheran Church, Edmore, ND with visitation beginning at 2:30 p.m.

Burial will follow at the Edmore Cemetery.
