Danny "Dan" Marquart

Danny “Dan” Marquart, age 63, resident of Lakota, ND, passed away due to multiple myeloma on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at his lake home surrounded by his family.

Dan was born August 4, 1952 in Devils Lake, ND, the son of Irving and Gladys (Larson) Marquart. He was raised near Lakota and attended the 1st grade at the Illinois Township country school. He also attended Lakota Public School, graduating in 1970. Dan then attended UND, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business & Aviation Administration. He returned to the family farm and farmed through 2015. Dan also was an aerial crop sprayer alongside his father for 25 years. Dan was on several committees, which included serving as a Nelson County Commissioner for over 13 years, a director of the Garrison Diversion Conservancy District for 7 years, and the Lakota Airport Authority. Dan married Mona Sigdahl in 1973. Together they raised 3 daughters in Lakota: Dani, Marni, and Kaitlin. Dan and Nancy Bymers were married in 2009 in Mesa, AZ. They resided in Lakota and although their time together was short, they lived every day to its fullest. Dan was a loving father and grandfather. He was affectionately referred to as Papa. Many days were filled hunting, fishing, farming, and sharing his love of the outdoors and nature. He was an amazing mentor and role model.

Dan will be deeply missed by his wife, Nancy; 3 daughters, Danielle (Cal) Helgeson of Grand Forks, ND, and their children Hayden, Alivia & Jack; Marni (Mike) Hajicek of West Fargo, ND, and their children Aubrey & Hadley; Kaitlin (Josh) Joramo of rural Lakota, and their children Taylor & Harlan and a baby due in October; step-children, Peter Meixl, Matthew Meixl, Kellie Lundgren, Ben Meixl, Jacob Meixl, Joseph Meixl, Karrie Lopez, Thomas Meixl and their families; his parents, Irving & Gladys of rural Lakota; 6 siblings, Timothy (Tamarah) of San Antonio, TX, Roxanne (John) Campbell of Dell City, TX, Barbara (Curtis) Sherrodd of Hugo, OK, Colleen Marquart of West Fargo, ND, Kelley Schneider of Pahrump, NV, and Sherry (Cary) Eidsness of Grand Junction, CO; and numerous nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his yellow lab, Reka.

Visitation will be held at the Lakota Lutheran Church, Lakota, ND, on Sunday, September 6, 2015 beginning at 4:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 5:00 p.m. The Memorial Service will be held at the church, on Monday, September 7, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with luncheon to follow at the Community Center.

In lieu of flowers, memorials will be used to carry on Dan’s love of nature.
