Darrell T. Matejcek

Darrell T. Matejcek, age 56, resident of Lakota, ND, died Thursday, November 6, 2008 , at the family farm.

Darrell Theodore Matejcek was born September 1, 1952 , to Theodore and Hazel (Evenson) Matejcek. He attended school at Sauter and in Lakota. After graduating from Lakota High School in 1970, he attended Valley City State College and was a member of the VCS Viking football team.

On August 12, 1971 , he married Kathlyn Burkland.

Darrell farmed the Matejcek Homestead with his dad, western Walsh Co., Sauter Township . He taught school, coached football and track in the Lakota School system for nine years. He refereed high school girls & boys basketball for twenty years and was inducted into the NDHSA Assn Hall of Fame in 2002. He worked in the crop insurance industry until the time of his death. He was an avid Nascar and Green Bay Packer fan. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, golfing & hunting.

Darrell is survived by his children, Mark, Scottsdale , AZ ; Nicole, Phoenix , AZ ; Trent (Sarah), Lawton , ND ; his grandchildren, Ethan Darrell Matejcek and Keira Christine Matejcek; his father Theo. "Ted", Lakota; sister, Evonne (Robert) Frederick, Lakota, and other extended family members. Preceding Darrell in death is his mother, Hazel, paternal & maternal grandparents.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at 11:00 AM in the Lakota Lutheran Church , Lakota. Officiating will be Reverend Joel Westby. Organist will be Karen Fowler. Casketbearers will be Kevin Sundre, David Johnson, Jim Aaker, Rick Schmidt, David Severtson, Kent Sundeen, Gordon Thompson, Arlyn Askim, Larry Houser and Richard Hamel. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 11, 2008 from 3 to 7 PM at the Aaker Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7 PM . Burial will be in the Kosobud Cemetery , rural Lankin , ND . Arrangements with the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota.
