David Young

David Dennis Young, 65, lost his 20 month battle to colon cancer on 15 August, 2012. He was courageous to the end, surrounded by loving friends and his wife Penny. His tenacity and will to live will inspire all those that loved him. His smile and laughter will be his lasting gift. Our lives will be quieter, but enriched. Dave was born on 20 December, 1946 to Robert L. and Clara M. (Olson) Young in Lakota, ND. He was raised in Michigan, ND. His favorite saying was he lived there for 28 years, and didn't know why he stayed there so long. In reality his heart and soul never left.

Dave graduated from Michigan High School, class of 1964 and then attended Mayville State College in ND. He was a Golden Glove boxer, a proud Vietnam Veteran and American, member of the Santa Maria Elks, American Legion Post 534, Vietnam Veterans of America Guadalupe branch, and a member of our beloved family and friends of the Central Coast Corvette Club. He began work in ND grain elevators, then for ITT in Langdon , ND and Barrow, Alaska as a diesel mechanic and Midway Island , where he met and married his wife Penny. They had 29 years together, remaining soul mates for life. Dave worked for the US Postal Service, Distribution Plant in Goleta , CA until he retired in 2006. Dave was an avid sports fan and could be heard for blocks cheering for his Dodgers, Broncos, and Lakers. He loved hunting, his Brittany Spaniels, being outdoors, playing golf, and giving his friends a hard time. For the past two years David and Penny spent their winter months in Tucson, enjoying life and retirement.

David is survived by his wife, Penny Young; stepson, Steven (Kristen) Tinetti, Calvin, Colby, and Angel of Moss Beach, CA; stepson, James (Laura) Tinetti, Natalie and Elise of West Sacramento, CA; stepdaughter, Phyllis (Greg) Odom, Lauren and Molly of Santa Maria, CA; brothers, Richard (Sharon) Young of Michigan, ND, Phillip Young of Michigan, ND, and Mike Young of Omaha, NE; sister, Ellen (Mark) Larson of Northwood, ND; and sister-in-law, Marlene Young of Devils Lake, ND. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, aunts, and an uncle all of whom he loved dearly. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Clara; and brothers, William (Billy), Raymond, and Mark.
