Della (Johnson) Sundeen died May 23, 2026. She was born on March 8, 1932 on her parent’s farm, (Harry and Lilla (Rainsberry) Johnson) in Clara Township, (which was named after her grandmother Clara (Ward) Rainsberry. Della was confirmed at the Hoff Scandinavian Evangelical Lutheran Church South of Brocket. She attended Cleveland School in rural Clara township. She attended Brocket High School and graduated in 1950. That winter she and her parents went to California and she got a job at Corsair aircraft riveting on the B29. She married Lyle Sundeen on May 27th 1951, at United Lutheran Church (Hoff and Vaage Churches) They purchased the Lehtinen farm north of Brocket, ND. They had five children, four boys and one girl. Robert, Kent, Randall, Baird and Leanne. (Della’s mother, grandmother and three of her Rainsberry uncles also had four boys and one girl.) Della and Lyle farmed together their entire married life. In 1975 they started Sundeen Harvesting and traveled for a number of years to Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, North and South Dakota.
Della was an avid reader, bowler, card shark, slot machine player (she always won on the ATM). She was an active member, of United Lutheran Church, Royal O’ Gray Legion Auxiliary, and Brocket Home makers. She won blue ribbons for her donuts. The first time she entered donuts that her mother-in-law Emma Sundeen had made, because she did not have time to make them herself, and won a blue ribbon. Every year after that she entered donuts she had made and always won blue ribbons. She had a number of jobs but the most rewarding was helping farm and caring for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death her husband, Lyle and two of their children, Robert and Leanne; her parents, Harry and Lilla Johnson; in-laws, Louie and Emma Sundeen; brothers, Kenneth, Eugene, Harlan, and Peter Johnson; sisters-in-law, Lourdes, Marilyn Johnson, and Karen Sundeen; brothers-in-law, Roger Sundeen, and James Kloster.
She is survived by her children, Kent (Kathy), Randall (Joanne), and Baird Sundeen; grandchildren, Brandon (Alma) Sundeen, Keri (Scott) Schmidt, Preston (Cassandra) Sundeen, Austin (Kristie) Sundeen and Ashley Sundeen; great grandchildren, Devan (Cheyenne), Braydon, Landon, Kelby, Kate, Jenna, Conner, Alexandria Sundeen, Grace (Nicolaas) Ray and Jada Kramer; step great grandchildren, Rose Avila, Candy (Shawn) Charles, Cristal (Fernando) Avila, and Lilianna (Ethan) Avila; step great great grandchildren, Amelia, Alias, Anna Charles and Sienna Hernandez; sisters-in-law, Karen Kloster and Bernice Johnson.
Della’s family wants to thank Aneta Parkview Health Care Center for their exquisite care they gave her. The staff were always welcoming, kind and truly showed Della they cared for her wellbeing.
Celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
