Donald Manasterski, age 73, resident of Brocket, ND, died Monday, August 21, 2017 at the University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN.
Donald Lee Sam Manasterski was born July 24, 1944 at Cando, ND, the son of Samuel and Tillie (Evoniuk) Manasterski. He was raised and educated in the Brocket area and graduated Lakota High School with the class of 1964. He then farmed with his parents and other area farmers. Donn was drafted into the U.S. Army on August 24, 1965. He served in Vietnam and was trained in aircraft armament repair. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and a Sharpshooter Medal (rifle M-14); which enabled him to serve as a gunner for helicopters and drivers. He was honorably discharged on August 10, 1967 with the rank of Specialist 4th Class. Donn returned to Brocket, where he worked at the Jacobson Grocery Store, and also continued farming with his parents and assisted with neighboring farmers, which he did for many years. He also worked construction in Devils Lake. Donn continued living at home, as he helped care for his parents in their later years. Most recently, Donn worked for John & Lisa at Dusty Roads Bar & Grill in Brocket, where he loved meeting people and enjoying the company of his friends. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, wood working, reading, and most of all, he loved spending time with all of his many friends; he also loved children.
Donn will be missed by his 5 siblings, Joyce Bratsven of Fairchild, WI, John (Lois) Manasterski of Waupaca, WI, Helen Cronce of Fairbanks, AK, LaVon Senger and Bonnie Jennings, both of Breezy Point, MN; many nieces & nephews, and all of his friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ann Farley; brothers-in-law, Chuck Bratsven, Dan Senger, Jerry Jennings, and Don Cronce; 8 nephews, Russell & Randy Manasterski, Ron, Dave & Sam Anheluk, Steve Cronce, Dan Senger Jr., and Luke Cronce;
and also a niece, Tracy Cronce.
The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Lakota, ND, on Thursday, August 31, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. The Celebrant will be Rev. Fr. Steven J. Meyer. Music will be provided by the St. Mary Church Choir. Interment will be private at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Brocket, ND. The casketbearers will be Rodney Bratsven, David Senger, Mark Senger, Timothy Senger, John Wightman, and Steve Gibson. Military honors will be accorded by the Rundell-Holicky American Legion Post #21 of Lakota, and the ND Military Funeral Honors Team. Visitation will be held at the Church on Wednesday, beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Vigil and Rosary Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the Church on Thursday, beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
