Donald M. Pogatshnik, age 89, resident of Lakota, ND, died Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Society in Lakota.

Donald was born March 30, 1924 on his parent's farm in Dodds Township of Nelson County, ND, the son of Peter A. and Elizabeth (Schuh) Pogatshnik. He was raised on the family farm and attended the Dodds Township School . Donald's family then moved to the farm where he lived and worked all of his life. He farmed with his parents until taking over the farming operation. Don thoroughly loved to farm and the agricultural lifestyle. He raised crops and also sheep, pigs, and cattle, as he loved animals. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Lakota, and also was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He served on the Dodds Township Board and enjoyed playing cards. He moved to the Good Samaritan Society in November of 2011.

Donald is survived by a sister, Kathryn (Ernest) Rusconi of Morgan Hill, CA; a brother, Bill Pogatshnik of Casselton , ND ; 14 nieces and nephews; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Helen Schultz; and a brother, James Pogatshnik.

The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Lakota, ND, on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. The Celebrant will be Rev. Fr. Steven Meyer. Music will be provided by the St. Mary Church Choir with Barbara Johnson as the organist. All of Donald's nieces and nephews are considered to be honorary bearers. Visitation will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota on Friday, beginning at 3:00 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the Church on Saturday, beginning at 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass.
