Donald Solberg, 78, of Lakota, ND passed away Friday morning, July 3, 2009 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks.
Donald was born July 7, 1930 in Lakota to Joseph and Oline Solberg. He attended Lakota schools and graduated from Lakota High School in 1948. He attended business school at NDSU and Toledo School of Business in Toledo , Ohio . He worked at Solberg Motor Company until 1970. He opened and operated Don Solberg Camper Sales until the time of his death. He was a member of Lakota Lutheran Church and served on the church council and building committee. He served as a councilman on the Lakota city council. He was a 50 year member of Sons of Norway and a member of the Elks and Masons and a member of the Recreational Vehicle Dealers Association of America. On March 23, 1957 he married Bernice "Bunny" Tomren at Devils Lake . She preceded him in death on July 12, 1992 . He married Marie Hazlett on January 26, 1997 at Lakota Lutheran. He and Marie spent the winter months at their home in Mesa , AZ.
Don is survived by his wife Marie Solberg of Lakota; two daughters Vicki (John) Bjornson of Oxbow, ND and Amy (Dean) Toso of Thompson, ND; two sons David (Julie) Solberg of Billings, Montana and Craig (Cindy) Solberg of Alta Loma, CA; grandchildren Krista (Matt) Salzer, Chad & Tyler Bjornson, Kelsey & Joey Solberg, Cody & Thomas Solberg and Abby Toso; step daughters Karen Doyle and Kathleen Hazlett of Lakota; step grandsons Randal Burns, Nicholas (Tiffany) Doyle and Patrick Doyle, brother-in-law Marshall Tomren.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Bernice, son Mark, brothers Archie, Grant, Woody, Orvin and James, sisters Olive Ensrud and Alice in infancy, grandson Jacob Solberg, and a step grandson J.J. Burns.
Funeral services for Don will be Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at 11:00 AM in the Lakota Lutheran Church . Visitation will be Monday, July 6, 2009 from 2 PM to 7 PM with a 7 PM prayer service at Aaker Funeral Home. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services in the church. Interment will be in the Lakota Cemetery . Arrangements with the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota.
