Dorine Dorothy Gerstner, 100, passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at Maple Manor Care Center in Langdon, ND.

Dorine was born on April 17, 1925, the daughter of Joseph and Albina (Zizka) Kubat, on the family farm near Lawton, ND. She attended grade school and junior high at Sauter School and graduated from Whitman High School in 1943. In August of that same year she took her first job as a clerk in the Johnson Store in Whitman.

On November 12, 1947 she married Louis Gerstner at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Lomice, rural Lawton. Dorine continued clerking at the Johnson Store until 1953 when it became a family-owned Gerstner-Matejcek General Store. In 1961 she became employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Whitman, as a clerk, and later became U.S. Postmaster, retiring after 20 years. In 2010 Dorine moved to Langdon and in 2019 she entered Maple Manor Care Center.

Dorine’s love of traveling with her husband took them to many sites of interest in the U.S. as well as countries abroad. She also enjoyed baking, sewing, caring for flowers and spending time with family and friends. She was a member of St. Lawrence O’Toole Catholic Church and their Catholic Women’s Club of Michigan. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 238 of Michigan.

Dorine is survived by her two daughters, Jennifer (John) Horihan, Lanesboro, MN and Pam (Stuart) Paulson, Langdon, ND; 6 grandchildren, Jason (Lynn) Horihan, Hillsboro, OR, Ryan Horihan, Peoria, IL, Derek Paulson, West Fargo, ND, Kevin (Laura) Horihan, Lanesboro, MN, Tanya Paulson, Minneapolis, MN, and Erin (Scott) Richnavsky, Plymouth, MN; 9 great-grandchildren, William, Matthew, Mae Rose, Nora, Liam, Fiona, and Rafe Horihan, Emma and Nolan Richnavsky; her godchild, Dawn Miller; and a special friend, Cindy Legg.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis in 2005; parents; and brothers, Harold (Marge) Kubat and Eugene (Marge) Kubat.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at St. Lawrence O’Toole Catholic Church, Michigan, with visitation one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be at The Michigan Cemetery.
