Dorothy Bjornson 88, Binford, N.D., passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at the Griggs County Care Center after a long battle with cancer.
Dorothy Mae Biggerstaff was born April 5, 1924, the daughter of Prince and Estella (Sloan) Biggerstaff at their farmhouse in rural Foster County. She was raised and attended grade school in the area, graduating from Glenfield High School with the Class of 1942.
On June 30, 1954, Dorothy was united in marriage to Chester Bjornson. They farmed and raised their children on the family farm in Rosendal twp. Griggs County N.D. In 1985 they retired and moved to Red Willow Lake. They entered the care facility 2012.
Dorothy was an active member of her Binford community. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Trinity WELCA, Zion Lutheran Cemetery Assoc., Homemakers Club, Binford PTA, Leader for Boy Scouts, 4-H, Sunday School, Binford Senior Citizens, Rebecca Odd Fellows, Square-Dancing Club's and many other organizations.
Pastimes included playing cards, reading, listening to "Chester's" music and dancing. Dorothy was a phenomenal cook and especially enjoyed baking treats for her loved ones such as: caramel rolls, angel food cakes, and orange cookies. She was a loyal Minnesota Viking and Twin supporter, and a proud Binford Eagle and Midkota Mustang fan. Dorothy loved to write: area history journals, youth group activity stories, cards, notes, and letters to remember friends and family.
Dorothy is survived by many including her husband of 58 years Chester; children and spouses: JoAnne (Gilbert) Black, Grace City, N.D.; Alan (Lyn) Bjornson, Mandan, N.D.; Barry Bjornson, Alexandria, MN; Robert (Diane) Bjornson, Horace, N.D.; 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; sisters Darlyne Nordstrom, Lakeville, MN and Madelyn (Mac) Halvorson, Binford, N.D.
She was preceded in death by many family members including her parents, first husband Clifford Halvorson; sisters Frances Iverson, Hazel Strouse; brothers Willis, Milan (Bud), Robert, and Bernard Biggerstaff.
Funeral services for Dorothy will be Saturday, February 9, 2013 at 11:00 am in Trinity Lutheran Church of Binford. Visitation will be Friday, February 8, 2013 from 6 pm to 7 pm with a prayer service at 7 pm in the Cooperstown Funeral Chapel. Officiating will be Reverend Kara Wiechmann. Organist will be Theresa Fiebiger. Spring interment will be in the Binford Cemetery.
