Dorothy E. Martel, 86, of Devils Lake, ND, died Sunday, November 13, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Home in Devils Lake.
A memorial service will be Friday, November 18 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Devils Lake, with Rev. Roger Leonhardt and Vicar Scott Strohkirch officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Toso, Wesley Pulst, Melbourne Brown, Lon Pulst, Larry Nahinurk, Dwight Nahinurk, Lee Nahinurk and Curtis Nahinurk. Music will be provided by Mavis Blake.
Dorothy was born January 29, 1925 in Devils Lake, ND, the daughter of Joseph and Gladys (Emigh) Nahinurk Sr. Dorothy was reared and educated in the Devils Lake area, attending a one room school house on the prairies of North Dakota . She was baptized in the year 1934 and confirmed in 1940.
Dorothy was united in marriage to George A. Grohs on January 22, 1944 in Devils Lake. They established their home on the Grohs family farm northwest of Devils Lake. This is where they lived and raised their daughters. Along with working on the farm, Dorothy also worked at Fashion City, Sears, the Ranch and the Senior Center. Dorothy was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and LWML.
Dorothy treasured every visit from her daughters, grandchildren and family. She also enjoyed the many cards, phone calls and visits from her many dear friends and families. She especially enjoyed a good game of rummy and would think nothing of beating the pants off you. She also enjoyed doing word search puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and watching Lawrence Welk. You will be greatly missed and remain in our hearts forever.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Beverly Schuller and Patty Grohs; grandchildren; Shelly Buckmeier, April (Steve) Schneider and Christopher Vorachek; great grandchildren, Dominic Schuller, Izayah Schneider, Hayden Borstad, Graci Hayes and Bently Vorachek; sisters, Helene Erickson, Doris (Dennis) Toso and Lila (Wesley) Pulst; many nieces and nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers, Joseph and Bobby Nahinurk; and grandson, Chad Buckmeier.
