Dorothy Ophaug

Dorothy Marie (Saint) Fuglem Ophaug, age 92, resident of Aneta, ND died October 11, 2016 at Aneta Parkview Health Center.

Dorothy was born at Glaston, ND May 3, 1924 the daughter of Herman and Lena (Vershoot) Saint. She attended schools at Wimbledon, Grand Forks, and Bowesmont, ND, Rossford, OH, and graduated from Aneta High School in 1942. Dorothy married Glenn Fuglem December 1942. They farmed together in Loretta Township many years. Glenn and Dorothy had 4 children: Glenna Arlien, Aneta, ND, Don (Lindy) Fuglem, Scottsdale, AZ, Dean(Lana) Fuglem, Greenbush, MN, and Darrel Fuglem, Larimore, ND. Dorothy started as an Avon representative in 1948, traveling the roads summer and winter, and was “The Avon Lady” for 58 years, the longest working Avon representative in North Dakota. Glenn died in 1969. Dorothy moved to Aneta and started working at the Aneta school as a cook, and then at the Good Samaritan Center in addition to selling Avon. She retired from Parkview Health Center in 2001 at age 77 and retired from Avon in 2005.

Dorothy married Merle Ophaug in 1976. They lived in Aneta. Merle died in 1997. After retiring, Dorothy spent winters in Arizona near 2 sons, and came back to Aneta for summers in her home where she could tend to her yard, vegetable and gorgeous flower gardens, and planters. She loved being out putzing (as she always said). She was happiest outside. Dorothy was a member of the Aneta American Legion Auxiliary Edward A. Broberg Unit 16, Sundahl Lutheran Church, and the Ladies Aid for Sundahl and West Union churches.

She is survived by her 4 children, 13 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Doris, husband Glenn, husband Merle, daughters-in-law Deborah Fuglem and Denise Fuglem, and son-in-law Steve Arlien.

Funeral services will be Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Sundahl Lutheran Church, Aneta, ND. Visitation will begin Saturday at 10 a.m. at the church. Interment will be at West Union Cemetery, rural Aneta, ND.
