Dorothy Rose Shereck

Dorothy Rose Shereck, 80, of Devils Lake, ND, formerly Lawton, ND, passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake, ND after a long battle with Alzheimer’s and multiple myeloma.

Dorothy Rose Kotaska was born April 2, 1937, ten minutes before her twin sister Joann, to Lewis and Josephine (Kachena) Kotaska. She grew up in the Conway/Pisek area and attended the local township school until 8th grade. She worked helping local families with babysitting, cleaning, etc. She worked at the Park River Hospital as a nurse’s aide before marrying Albert J Shereck August 27, 1958 in Pisek, ND. The couple moved multiple times before settling in and around Lawton. In 1964, Dorothy and Albert became business partners in Watkins Products. They became very successful. They were initial inductees into Watkins Presidents Club, among the top 3 in the nation, earning many awards and trips. Dorothy cherished the many lifelong friends she made through Watkins, and her many generous deeds of volunteering. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo, flowers, and gardening. She was an active member of the Altar Society, Catholic Workman, Lawton Senior Center, and Lawton Town Board. She worked at LouElls in Lawton, cooking for years. She continued delivering Grand Forks Herald long after each of her kids did it for their first job. She raised her kids to “pay it forward” with the gift of giving to others.

Dorothy is survived by children Linda (Clinton) Martz, Cando, ND, Lawrence (Michelle) Shereck, Moorhead, MN, Leonard Shereck, Breckenridge, MN, Loren (Sharyl) Shereck, Grand Forks, ND, LeRoy (Kim) Shereck, Devils Lake, ND, and Lonnie (Michelle) Shereck, Bismarck, ND; grandchildren Sandra (Curt) Rekkedal, Portsmouth, VA, Lindsey Shereck, Dent, MN, Benjamin Shereck, Moorhead, MN, Curtis Shereck, Moorhead, MN, Taylor Shereck, Fargo, ND, Cassidy Shereck, Devils Lake, ND, Cody Shereck, Devils Lake, ND, Halle Shereck, Valley City, ND, and Trey Shereck, Bismarck, ND; great grandchildren Curtis “CJ” Rekkedal, Portsmouth, VA and Chase Rekkedal, Portsmouth, VA; and siblings Joann Ryba, Lakota, ND and Paul (Rosie) Kotaska, Grand Forks, ND.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Albert (1988), son Leslie (1975), grandchild Alexander Shereck (1994), parents Lewis (1979) and Josephine (1993), and siblings Mary (Maresh) Hodny (2006), Lewis Kotaska (2008), and Luella Kadlec (1995).

The Funeral Mass will be Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Lakota, ND with visitation beginning at 9 a.m. Visitation will also be Friday, November 10, 2017 from 5 to 7 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 7 p.m. at Aaker Funeral Home, Lakota, ND. Interment will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Brocket, ND.
