Duane “Dewey” Oppegaard, age 80, resident of Michigan, ND, died Friday, April 22, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Society in Lakota, ND.
Alexander Duane Oppegaard was born October 4, 1935 near Erskine, MN, the son of Palmer and Bertha (Sannes) Oppegaard. He was raised in the area and graduated from McIntosh High School in 1954. He moved to Michigan, ND in 1956 and farmed with his brother-in-law, Bud Solberg. Dewey enlisted in the U.S. Army on July 22, 1958 and was honorably discharged on June 6, 1960. He started working for the N.D. State Highway Department in 1966 until retiring in 1996. Dewey married Marcy (Shirek) Bina on May 17, 1985 in Grand Forks, ND.
Dewey is survived by his wife, Marcy; 3 stepchildren, Mike Bina, Joe Bina, and Sandy Agguire; 1 sister, Marvel Devine of Harlingen, TX; and his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Bernice Solberg and Adelle Schleicher; and a brother, Clarence.
A private committal service will be held at the ND State Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
