Eleanor G. Keating, age 99, resident of McVille, ND, formerly of rural Lakota, ND, died Monday, October 10, 2016 at the Nelson County Health System Care Center in McVille.

Eleanor Gertrude Brenna was born January 19, 1917 near Tolna, ND, the daughter of Temon and Clara (Hensrud) Brenna. She was a graduate of Tolna High School. She then worked at Bolken’s grocery store in Tolna. Eleanor married Roy Keating on November 17, 1941 at McVille. The couple lived in McVille for a short time before Roy’s career with Farmers Union required them to live in several towns across North Dakota. The family eventually settled on their farm near Lakota. Eleanor and Roy spent several winters in Mesa, AZ. Roy died December 13, 1984. Eleanor continued living on the farm and spending winters in Mesa. She then moved into Tolna before moving to the care center in January of 2014. Throughout her life Eleanor was a member of the Homemaker’s Club and the Ladies Aid at American Lutheran Church in Tolna. She was a very good cook and baker, and also enjoyed gardening.

Eleanor will be missed by her 3 children, Larry (Sue) Keating of Canon City, CO, Sharyn (John) Poore of Council Bluffs, IA, and Judy (Av West) Keating of Colorado Springs, CO; 3 grandchildren, Sean Keating, Tina Keating Morse, and Kristin Poore; 4 great grandchildren; and her nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; and 2 sisters, Vivian Schindele and Edith Bertsch.

The Funeral Service for Eleanor will be held at American Lutheran Church of Tolna, ND, on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be the Reverend John A. Monson. Interment will be in the Tolna Cemetery. The casketbearers will be Peter Lippert, Darren Lippert, Don Lippert, and Delane Hoyt. Honorary casketbearers will include Irving Marquart, Don Hoveskeland, Josh Joramo, Kristin Poore, Tina Keating Morse, and Sean Keating. Visitation will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota on Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and will continue at the church on Thursday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Memorials are suggested to the donor’s choice or the Nelson County Health System Care Center Activity Department.
