Elwood Jorde
February 7, 1931 — August 4, 2017
Elwood Jorde, age 86, resident of Michigan, ND passed away at home on August 4, 2017 surrounded by his family and under the care of Altru Hospice.
Elwood was born February 7, 1931 in Mekinock, ND, the son of Gotfred and Gertie (Burtness) Jorde. He was raised on a farm in Mekinock, later moving to Tolna, ND, and then to Melvin Township. Elwood attended Melrose country school through the 8 grade. He was passionate about farm life.
Elwood married Verna Hillestad on June 21, 1953 in East Grand Forks, MN. Together they began their life on a farmstead near Michigan, ND. They were members of Center Lutheran Church and became members of Michigan Lutheran Church after its closing.
Elwood loved being in the fields, planting, growing, and harvesting his crops. He had a talent for mechanics which he learned from repairing his farm equipment. He also was proud of his herd of dairy cows which he owned and milked for 42 years. Somehow he managed to keep cattle around, by switching holsteins to beef cattle.
Elwood was a great neighbor and friend. He loved his family and touched many lives, always willing to give his heart.
Elwood will be deeply missed by his wife, Verna; children, Elaine (Dale) Jones of Eagan, MN, Neal Jorde and Rodney (Kelly) Jorde both of Lakota, ND; grandchildren, Tera Krebs, Joshua (Andrea) Krebs, and Kayla (Curtiss) Campbell; great grandchildren, Ethan, Ayden, Domanic, and Sullivan; sisters, June Bye of Northwood, ND, Eileen (Lloyd) Iverson of Grand Forks, ND; sister-in-law, Phyllis Jorde of Tolna, ND.
Elwood was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Dustin Jorde; siblings, Bernice (Ernest) Agotness, Oren (Phyllis) Jorde, Vernon (Phyllis) Jorde, Junette Jorde; half-sisters, Ivy Bratlie, Leona Hensrud, and Mae Hendrickson.
The Funeral Service for Elwood will be held at the Michigan Lutheran Church of Michigan, ND, on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at Center Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
