Ernest Haabak

Ernest C. Haabak, age 93, resident of Kloten , ND passed away Saturday, April 16, 2011 at his home.

Ernest was born March 26, 1918 in Lee Township the son of Henry and Rachel (Almaas) Haabak. He was baptized and confirmed at the Valley Grove Lutheran Church . Ernest attended school in Kloten and farmed with his family until entering the United States Army in November of 1941. He was discharged in October of 1945 and returned to the farm near Kloten. On March 11, 1947 he married Victoria Bergstrand. After their marriage they lived and farmed in Kloten until Ernest retired in 1980. Ernest continued to help on the farm throughout his retirement. He served as a supervisor and clerk in Lee Township, taught Sunday school and served as a trustee in Valley Grove Church, was secretary of the Kloten School District as well as a school bus driver.

Ernest will be missed and remembered by his wife Victoria of Kloten; children Ellen (Don) Croy of Cartwright, ND, Linda Haabak of Hemet, CA and Harold (Diane) Haabak of Kloten; 2 step grandchildren Rob (Laurie) Johnson and Tracy Johnson; step great granddaughter Kyra Kosteki; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Berdie Smith, brothers Harry and Leland.

Funeral services for Ernest will be held on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at 11:00 in New Luther Valley Lutheran Church, McVille. Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 19, 2011 from 5 PM to 7 PM in the Stanley-Iverson Funeral Home and one hour prior to services in the church. Officiating will be Reverend Lynn Kinneberg. Organist will be Margaret Johnson with special music by Glen and Jo Ann Sherwood. Casketbearers will be Harlan Sigdahl, Michael Naas, Terry Naas, Richard Hanson, Warren Ophaug and Bruce Loyland. Interment will be in Valley Grove Cemetery, Kloten. Military honors will be provided by the Ole Semling American Legion Post #135 of McVille. Memorials are preferred to the Nelson County Health System Foundation, Windows Fund or the charity of your choice. Arrangements with Stanley-Iverson Funeral Home of McVille.
