Ethel Brooks

Ethel Brooks, 87, of Kloten, ND answered the Master's call, and was brought Home on Friday, November 22, 2013 surrounded by family at the NCHS Care Center in McVille.

Ethel Fay (Thompson) Brooks was born Sept. 8, 1926 on a farm along the Sheyenne River SW of Kloten to Gilbert and Marith (Amundson) Thompson. She was a twin to Edith Fern. She was baptized, confirmed and married to Leslie Brooks by Rev. Marcus Tufteland of the Valley Grove Lutheran Church at Kloten. She attended school at Kloten Consolidated School, graduating in 1944. She worked in McVille, and married Leslie on her 20 th birthday in 1946. To this marriage was born four children: Marilyn (Jim) Henderson , Page, ND, Irene (Richard) Helm, Cooperstown, ND, Robert (Sue) Brooks, Cooperstown, ND and Gerald (Luann) Brooks, McVille, ND. Ethel was a dedicated wife, mother, Sunday school teacher & Superintendent ladies aid member. Everything she did was done with a great deal of care & with excellence - housework, sewing, needlework, weaving, painting, woodwork finishing, singing & playing hymns, gardening, praying and studying God's word. She and her sisters quilted & knit winter items for those in need for many years. She was a quiet, private and unassuming servant of our Lord.

Ethel is survived by her husband of 67 years, Leslie, their four children and their spouses, 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, her twin sister Edith Johnson, McVille, ND, her brother Allyn (Lori) Thompson, Grand Forks, ND and many cousins, nephews & nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Alvin, sisters Hazel Thompson and Gina Hatlestad and grandson Phillip Brooks.

Funeral services for Ethel will be held Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at 2:00 pm in the New Luther Valley Lutheran Church of McVille, ND. Visitation will be Monday, November 25, 2013 at the New Luther Valley Lutheran Church from 5 pm to 7 pm with a 7 pm family service. Interment will be in the Valley Grove Cemetery, Kloten, ND. Memorials are preferred to the Rescue Mission in Grand Forks. Arrangements with the Stanley-Iverson Funeral Home of McVille, ND.
