She was the oldest of seven children and attended grade school in Newland Township. She also attended Edmore High School for three years, which she left before graduating to work in various households to cook and do chores.

Evelyn married Lawrence Landsem on November 27, 1933. They resided in Edmore during the winters, and various job sites during the warm months while Lawrence was employed in road construction. She was active in teaching Sunday School throughout the years. Three children were born to Lawrence and Evelyn, and they grew up on the family farm. Lawrence passed away in 1972. Evelyn enjoyed gardening, sewing, embroidery, reading, and playing Yahtzee.

Evelyn moved to the town of Edmore in 1994 while maintaining the position of St. Hans Cemetery Treasurer, which she held for many years. She continued her love of flower gardening, making quilts, and crocheting. She resided in her home until October of 2011 when she moved to the Edmore Memorial Rest Home. She stayed there until her death, after a brief hospitalization. The family had just helped her celebrate her 101st birthday.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; siblings, Clara, Raymond, Harvey, and James Rice; and two sons, Lowell and Phillip Landsem.

She is survived by her daughter, Sherrie (Larry) Walford of Devils Lake, ND; grandchildren, Matthew Landsem and David (Kari) Landsem, both of rural Edmore, Karla (Chad) McLaughlin of rural Park River, Jenny (IW) Potgieter of Devils Lake, and Tim (Angela) Walford of Bismarck; great grandchildren, Haille and Evan McLaughlin, Hope Axvig, Nikita Huset-McLaughlin, Nicole and Logan Landsem, Megan and Colton Agotness, Jacob and Hendrick Potgieter, and Braxton Walford.
