Ferne T. Schill, age 92, of Hillsboro, ND, formerly of Lakota, ND, passed away on Thursday, January 17 2013 at Sanford Hillsboro Nursing Home.

Ferne was born June 22, 1920 in Milton, ND to Donald M. and Martha A. (McKay) McLeod. Ferne graduated from Mayville State Teachers College in 1942 and subsequently taught in several rural schools in Northeastern North Dakota. She married Elmer Schill on August 2, 1947 in Milton. After living in Clyde and Easby, ND, they moved to Lakota in 1952. Elmer passed away April 7, 1990. Ferne continued to live in Lakota until moving to Breckenridge , MN in 2002 and then to Hillsboro in 2007. Ferne was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lakota. She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved spending her time playing cards, gardening, and attending her grandchildren's sporting events.

Ferne is survived by her four children, Larry (Faye) of Grant, FL, Don (Monica - deceased) of Breckenridge, MN, Sue Ellen (Ken) Grande of Cando, ND, and David (Jody) of Hillsboro, ND; brother, Floyd (Doreen) McLeod of Cavalier, ND; sister, Jean (Albert) Peebles of Devils Lake, ND; seven grandchildren, Chris, Nathan, Heidi, Whitney, Daniel, Madison, and Sydney; and seven great-grandchildren.

Ferne was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Kenneth, Dean, and Robert; and daughter-in-law, Monica Schill.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Lakota on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Celebrating the Mass will be Rev. Fr. Steven Meyer. Music will be provided by the St. Mary Church Choir, accompanied by Barbara Johnson. Scripture reader will be Larry Schill, altar server will be Daniel Grande, and giftbearers will be Sydney and Madison Schill. Burial will be in the spring at the Lakota Cemetery. The casketbearers will be Larry Schill, Don Schill, David Schill, Ken Grande, Daniel Grande, Nathan Schill, and Chris Best. The honorary bearers will be all of Ferne's grandchildren. Visitation will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota on Monday, beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the Church on Tuesday, beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass
