George Thomas Bina, age 94, resident of Lakota, ND, passed away Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at Valley Elder Care in Grand Forks.
George was born at Brocket, ND on July 4th, 1920. He was the son of Thomas and Elizabeth (Salaba) Bina. He was raised on the family farm near Brocket, attended the Sauter Township School, and graduated from Brocket High School. He married Mary G. Miller on Oct. 18, 1945 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Brocket. They raised their family and farmed near Brocket for most of their life. In the spring of 1976 they built a home in Lakota and moved there later that year. George was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Brocket, St. Catherine Lomice near Lawton, and St. Mary's Church in Lakota. Over the years George wore many hats in the community. He worked for the Red Owl Store, he did carpentry while living in Lakota, and managed the Sunlac Inn. George served on the Lillehoff Township Board, the St. Joseph Church Cemetery Board, and the Brocket School Board.
George will be deeply missed by his two children, Joanne and husband Tom Hardy of Walhalla, ND, Robert and wife Susan Bina of Grand Forks, ND. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Tyler (Kiera) Hardy, Lindsay (Billy) Nelson, Melanie Bina Dodds, Brandon Bina and 2 great grandchildren.
George was preceded in death by his wife, Mary in 2002, and sister, Margaret Powers in 2008.
The Funeral Mass for George will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church of Lakota on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery of Brocket. Visitation will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota on Friday, October 31, 2014 after 5:00 p.m. with a Vigil & Rosary Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the Church on Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
