Georgia M. (Balek) Elgin, age 93, resident of Lakota, ND, died Thursday, October 16, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Society in Lakota.

Georgia Mary Matejcek was born August 14, 1921 in Walsh County near Brocket, ND at the farm home of her parents Adolph and Eleanor (Bina) Matejcek. She was raised on the farm and attended the Sauter Township School. Georgia married Adolph Balek on October 29, 1940. They farmed and milked cows at Brocket while also operating a Dray business. Adolph died December 19, 1973. Georgia married Maynard Elgin on January 18, 1975. They lived at Brocket and attended every dance in the area, as they loved to dance. Maynard died January 14, 1994. Over the years Georgia was a Social Homemaker for Ramsey County. She was also a 4-H Leader, a member of the Birthday Club and Homemakers Club. She was active in St. Joseph Catholic Church and Altar Society in Brocket. Following her retirement, Georgia moved into Lakota and became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society in March of 2009.

Georgia will be missed by her 3 children, Eleanor (Claude) Christian of Douglas, WY, Patricia (Larry) Johnson of Lakota, and William (Jeanne) Balek of Hayden, ID; a "special" daughter, Helen "Birdie" Tiistola of Brocket; 11 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; a brother, Theodore Matejcek of Lakota; a sister, Rangina (Albert) Bina of Grand Forks, ND; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Adolph Balek and Maynard Elgin; an infant son, Terrance Balek; and sister-in-law, Hazel Matejcek.

The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church of Lakota, ND, on Monday, October 20, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. The Celebrant will be Rev. Fr. Steven J. Meyer. Interment will be at St. Catherine Catholic Cemetery, Lomice, rural Lawton, ND. Visitation will be held at the Church on Sunday, beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Vigil and Rosary Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the Church on Monday, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Catherine Catholic Cemetery, Lomice.
