Gladys Dahl, age 92, resident of Lakota, ND, passed away Thursday, March 12, 2015 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
Gladys Skjerseth was born May 10, 1922 the daughter of Gunder and Borghild (Nyland) Skjerseth on their farmstead in Clara Township of Nelson County, near Brocket, ND. She attended the Cleveland School. Gladys was united in marriage to Melvin Dahl on April 5, 1941 at the Lutheran Parsonage in Lakota by Pastor Brakke. After farming for 40 years, they moved to Lakota in 1981, residing in Nelson Apartments. Gladys loved music and she learned to play the piano and accordion by ear; she was also a good singer and dancer. She was a member of the Lakota Lutheran Church and served with the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed playing games, especially Scrabble, but also enjoyed flowers, gardening, animals, but specifically loved puppies and kitties. Melvin died November 4, 1991. Gladys continued living in Lakota, most recently at Prairie Rose, then the Good Samaritan Center from 2011 to the present.
Gladys will be deeply missed by her 5 children, Eileen (Gordon) Thompson of Lakota, Rita (Jerry) Midstokke of Grand Forks, Ronald (Marcy) Dahl of Minot, Kenneth (Lori) Dahl of Lakota, and Dennis (Lori) Dahl of Grand Forks; 12 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Bonnie McClary of Minneapolis, MN and Ruth (Harold) Severson of Lakota; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Melvin; son, Gerald; 3 brothers, Thor, Peter, and James; 2 sisters, Goody Leikas Peterson and Betty Noland Munson; and great grandson, Cameron Lee Dahl.
The Funeral Service for Gladys will be held at the Lakota Lutheran Church on Monday, March 16, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be the Reverend Tedd Rieke, and the organist will be Karen Fowler. Interment will be at the Hoff Cemetery, rural Brocket. Gladys’ grandchildren will be serving as casketbearers. Visitation will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota on Sunday, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and will continue at the church on Monday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
