Gladys R. Marquart, age 91, resident of Lakota, ND, passed away Saturday, September 7, 2024, on her farm near Lakota, surrounded by her family.
Gladys was born on a farm near Binford, ND in 1932. During her high school years, she found the love of her life, Irving. Gladys graduated in Binford in 1950 and married Irving one month later, on June 25, 1950. She was not only a wife but a partner in the farm and spraying business. Gladys was well known in the community as a strong lady. She carried many titles, driving trucks, mixing chemicals, spray flagging, varnishing, and mowing grass. If you knew Gladys, this lady was always on the Go! I believe retirement wasn’t in her vocabulary. On the farm, Gladys was active in her garden, which she passed on her tidbits in gardening to her family. Canning and freezing were known as a productive line at the farm. She was dad’s fishing partner, summer, winter, windy and/or calm days they were on the lake. Gladys was known to be an active listener, but she loved to talk, her phone was her link to the world. She loved singing “You are my Sunshine” with her great grandchildren. Later in her life, her diagnosis of Macular Degeneration did not slow this lady down. As you drove up to the farm you would see her on the mower or in the garden tending to her vegetables. Mom loved flowers, so a tradition every spring, family would plant her favorite or requested flowers, you would see her outside watering them until she was unable too. She was always instructing orders, or we would say she kept all in order as dad called her “The Boss”. When dad’s health declined, her abilities to care for him were exceptional. Her love for Irving was known for many years as she cared for him on the farm. She was at peace on the farm which was shortened when she was diagnosed with MDS and later developed Acute Leukemia.
Gladys will be deeply missed by her family; Tim Marquart of San Antonio, TX and children Tracey and Matthew; the late Dan Marquart (Nancy) and children Danielle, Marni and Kaitlin; Roxanne Campbell of Dell City, TX and children Glennda, Elizabeth, and Xenna; Barbara (Curtis) Sherrodd of Hugo, OK and children Zachary, Kalen and Jeremy; Colleen (Neal) Cook in Beardsley, MN and children Samantha and Nicole; Kelley (Scott) Stabenow of Pahrump, NV and children Brandon, Cody, Devin and Ky; Sherry (Cary) Eidsness of Grand Junction, CO and children Alyssa and Camron; and many great and great-great grandchildren; and one sister, Vivian Avdem.
