Gordon E.D. Olson, age 80, resident of Brocket, ND, died Saturday, July 30, 2016 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
Gordon Earl Delane Olson was born July 28, 1936 in Enterprise Township of Nelson County, ND, the son of Charles and Anna (Arvola) Olson. He attended elementary school in Pelto and Lakota, then attended high school at the Walsh County Agricultural School in Park River and Michigan High School. He also attended Bismarck Junior College and Mary College in Bismarck. Gordon enlisted in the U.S. Air Force after graduation from high school and served in Korea and several bases in the U.S. After his discharge he worked on the home farm. Gordon married Susan D. Karna on April 8, 1960 in Lakota. He began employment in the ND Motor Vehicle Department at Bismarck in January of 1961. He served as Deputy Motor Vehicle Registrar and Motor Vehicle Registrar. In 1976 the couple moved back to the home farm and farmed until 1983. They then moved into Brocket, where Gordon managed the Brocket Oil Co. until he retired. Susan died March 4, 2012. Gordon served on the Brocket Equity Elevator Board, the Brocket Oil Co. Board, Enterprise Township Board, Enterprise Finnish Cemetery Board, Pioneer Square Board, Brocket City Council, and the United Lutheran Church Council. He was a member of the W.L. Cowper American Legion Post #238 of Michigan, the Neathery-Simensen Post #756 Devils Lake Veteran’s of Foreign Wars, the Bismarck Eagle’s Aerie #2237, and the Finnish American Historical Society.
Gordon is survived by 2 sons, Keith A. of Lakota and Scott B. (Debbie) of Grand Forks; a daughter, Lori Ann (Steve) Schuh of Lakota; 7 grandchildren, Joshua (Brandie) Ulland, Jamie, Jesse & Logan Schuh, Damion Olson, Stephanie Verhoeven, and Stephen Krogstad; 11 great grandchildren, Tommy, Shay, Aubrey, Henry, Mariah, Roman, Aaliyah, Theo, Michael, Korban, and Kylynn; and many nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, 3 brothers, and 2 sisters.
The Memorial Service for Gordon will be held at the United Lutheran Church of Brocket, ND, on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in the Enterprise Cemetery, rural Brocket. Visitation will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota on Friday, beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
