Gordon B. Hensrud

Gordon B. Hensrud, age 70, resident of rural Pekin, ND, left his earthly life and entered into eternal life with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at Wedgewood Manor in Cavalier, ND.

Gordon was born October 16, 1944 in McVille, ND to Edwin and Esther (Haugen) Hensrud. He grew up on the family farm near Tolna, ND. He began his education at Forde #3 south of the farm and later completed his education in the Tolna Public School. Gordon graduated in 1962 and immediately enlisted into the U.S. Navy. He was stationed out of San Diego, CA with the 7th fleet. The USS Oriskany did tours in the Pacific landing at ports in Hong Kong, China; Japan; the Philippines; and Hawaii. Gordon was honorably discharged in 1966. For several years he worked as a farm laborer in the Hunter, McVille, and Pekin areas. In the early 1970’s he attended LRSC in Devils Lake to learn carpentry which he did for a few years. His life took a different direction when he decided to become a truck driver. Over the years he hauled everything from furniture, farm implements, grain, jet fuel, and gravel. Gordon retired in 2013. Gordon loved music especially country, gospel, and old time. He taught himself how to play the guitar and spent many hours playing and singing. He loved to visit and always had lots of stories to tell, especially about his years in the Navy. The past few years he enjoyed his senior meals and visits with the guys at the Tolna CafAC.. Over the years Gordon was active in church activities. “Gordie” was the best brother and uncle, always ready to lend a hand. He always had a sweet tooth, and especially loved jelly beans.

Gordon is survived by two brothers, Walter (Jan) Hensrud and Thoralph Hensrud; his sister, Phyllis (Rodney) Haugland; three nephews, Michael Hensrud, Eric Haugland, and Paul (Heather) Haugland; two nieces, Judy (Randy) Cook and Sarah Haugland; along with several great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother, Keith.

The Funeral Service for Gordon will be held Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sigdal Lutheran Church of rural Tolna, ND. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the church. Interment will be in the Sigdal Church Cemetery. Military Honors will be by American Legion Post #162, Tolna, ND.
