Gordon Raaen

Gordon Raaen, age 83, resident of McVille , ND passed away Monday, December 29, 2008 at the Nelson County Health System - Care Center in McVille.

Gordon was born February 7, 1925 in Osago Township the son of Ole and Anna (Clauson) Raaen. He grew up and attended country school at Bergen #1 and graduated from Pekin High School . He served in the United States Army. Gordon taught English in Starbuck , MN , Cavalier and Williston , ND and retired from Alhambra High School , Phoenix , AZ , after 25 years. He was active in community affairs including the Sheyenne Church , Dollars for Scholars, Pekin Community Center , Pekin Senior Citizens, American Legion, Nelson County Historical Society and the Nelson County Council on Aging. In February of 2002 he entered NCHS - Care Center .

He is survived by his sister-in-law Dorothy Raaen; nephew David Raaen; niece Ann Kleven; great niece Allison Kleven; great nephews Jordan and Jacob Kleven and great great nephew Keagan Edwards.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother Ide and brother Owen.

Funeral services will be Saturday, January 3, 2009 at 11:00 AM in the Sheyenne Lutheran Church , rural Pekin , ND. Officiating will be Reverend David Nichols. Organist will be Betty Bina. Soloist will be Paul Odden. Visitation will be Friday, January 2, 2009 from 3 PM to 7 PM in the Stanley-Iverson Funeral Home and continue one hour prior to services in the church. Spring interment will be in the Sheyenne Church Cemetery , rural Pekin , ND . Military Honors by the Morken-Christianson American Legion Post #182.
