Gordon Stokkeland

Gordon W. Stokkeland, age 77, resident of Cooperstown, ND passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at the Griggs County Care Center.

Gordon was born November 29, 1936 in McVille, ND, the son of Torval and Myrtle (Aslakson) Stokkeland. He was baptized at Ottawa Lutheran Church and was currently a member of Prairie Faith Lutheran Church of Glenfield. He resided at home with his parents at Juanita, ND for a few years before the family moved to rural Cooperstown. He continued to live there all his life till moving into the Griggs County Care Center in 2012.

Gordon will always be remembered for his kind sweet spirit and generous heart. He enjoyed watching the deer, birds and squirrels feeding by the windows. He loved airplanes, especially the B-17, and going to see the Blue Angels at the air shows. Some highlights for him were trips to visit his brothers in California, fishing in Canada, the Oshkosh Air Show and Norway to visit relatives. He loved visits from family and friends and made many new friends at the care center. He was famous for winning many stuffed animals playing bingo, only to give most of them away to his caregivers, visiting children and relatives which gave him great pleasure.

Surviving members of the family are his sister, Ann (Keith) Austin of Fargo, ND, two brothers, Vernon (Darlene) and Curtis (Eileen) of Cooperstown, ND and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robert.

Memorial services for Gordon will be Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Prairie Faith Lutheran Church in Glenfield, ND. Visitation will be Friday, August 22, 2014 from 5 p.m. till 7 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7 P.M. at the Cooperstown Funeral Chapel and continue one hour prior to services in the church. Interment will be at Ottawa Church Cemetery.
