Gordon Wayne Thompson, age 82, of Lakota, ND, passed away on Friday, March 21, 2025.

Gordon was born on April 19, 1942, the son of Raymond and Helen (Haugen) Thompson. Gordy first attended elementary school in Bartlett and graduated in 1960 from Lakota High School.

On June 1, 1963, he married his high school sweetheart, Eileen (Dahl) and continued living on the family farm for 61 years. Gordy farmed alongside his dad, son and grandsons where he lived out his dream of farming. He also had many employees who became lifelong family friends. Gordy also drove school bus and was a welder for American Bridge Co. constructing missel silos in the area.

Gordy was active in the community as President of the Lakota School Board, Lions Club, Kem Temple and was a Scottish Rite Mason earning his 32nd degree. He was also an active member of the Lakota Lutheran Church. He served on the Farm Credit Services Board from 1986-2002 where he made many lifelong friends. He also served as chairman for the ND State Federation of Farm Credit for over 10 years.

Gordy enjoyed a lifetime of adventures. He loved earning his private pilot license, hunting, fishing, camping, water and snow skiing, and many memories made with family and friends in the motorhome. He enjoyed wintering in Arizona and especially loved card playing and his coffee groups in both Arizona and Lakota.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Helen.

Gordy is survived by his wife of 61 years, Eileen; daughter, Kathy (Leith) Rodgers, Grand Forks, ND; son, David (Fran) Thompson, Lakota; grandchildren, Joe Pikarski, Jaden (Adam) Swanson, Ryan (Laura) Thompson, Randy (Breanne) Thompson and Ross Thompson; great grandson, Sonder Joe Swanson and two great grandchildren ‘on the way’; and his sister, Connie Ericksrud, Lakota.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at Lakota Lutheran Church with visitation from 10-11 am.

Burial will be at the Lakota Cemetery.

The family requests memorials to the Lakota Cemetery or Lakota Lutheran window renovation fund.
