Gudrid K. Gordon, age 97, passed away Saturday, July 22, 2017 at St. John’s Lutheran Ministries, in Billings, Montana.
Gudrid was born October 21, 1919, in McVille, North Dakota to Fred and Anna Lundeby. Gudrid married James Gordon of Lakota, North Dakota in 1939. They were married 55 years and had 3 children: Robert, Alice, and Mary Anne. After multiple moves throughout the West and a number of years spent in Seattle where Gudrid worked as a bookkeeper for JC Penney, she and Jim settled in Billings in 1989. Gudrid loved being a homemaker, where her culinary and sewing skills were always on display. An avid letter writer, she maintained an extensive address book. Gudrid also kept a journal of all the places she and her family lived. Gudrid was known for her warm, caring personality, generous compliments, and skill at conversing. Friends and family enjoyed hearing her stories of life growing up on the Lundeby farm on the banks of the Sheyenne River. Gudrid was a member of American Lutheran Church and enjoyed fellowship there through various activities. She volunteered for ten years at the Billings Clinic, most of them spent helping people make choices in the gift shop.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Alice Gordon (Paul Grmoljez) and Mary Anne Halvorson (Lawrence) of Billings; sister, Liv Halvorson of Billings; daughter-in-law, Fran Gordon of Kent, WA; grandchildren, Julie Hansen (David), Chris Gordon (Lydia), Stacey McCullough (Shane), Andrew Halvorson (Melanie), Mathew Halvorson, Dane Halvorson, and Mark Halvorson; numerous great and great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Gudrid was preceded in death by her parents; son, Robert; husband, Jim; sisters, Vivian Ringdahl (Carl) and Solveig Nelson (Bill); brothers, Tubby Lundeby, Iver Lundeby (Shirley) and Ludvig Lundeby; sisters-in-law, Mary Schroeder, Edgarlyn Gordon, and Ura Anthony; brothers-in-law, Lynn Schroeder, Laverne Halvorson, and Jack Gordon.
A memorial service will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota, ND, on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow in the Lakota Cemetery.
Gudrid’s family would like to thank St. John’s staff at Chapel Court and Rimview North for the many years of loving and tender care.
