Harvey E. Schmiginske

Oh, no more yummy orange cookies, no more fabulous mocha bars, no more sandbakkles and oh those donuts that Harvey made were the best, now no more. Harvey had a passion for baking for his family and friends. When he worked at Red Willow he was up at 4 a.m. baking pies and yummy goodies for the day.

Harvey E. Schmiginske died at the McVille Care Center, at the age of 90, on March 11, 2025. Harvey was born on the farm south of McVille on April 3, 1934 to Ray and Gladys (Elgin) Schmiginske.

Harvey spent most of his life around McVille. He did spend a couple years 1969-70 in Washington staying with friends Al and Arlene Moen and helped in a café. He also helped at Green Lake Bible Camp in Minnesota for a few summers.

Harvey was such a caring person. Never forgetting a birthday, anniversary or wedding and his sisters will miss getting a book of postage stamps for their birthdays. He would have a car full of ladies going out to dinners and would drive a long way to have Lutefisk, that tasty stuff.

Harvey loved to dance, but his favorite was the Waltz. Harvey and Alice Stahl won the Waltz contest at the Valley City Winter Show, and he never had a hard time finding a partner.

In October 2023 he went to Pekin with friends for a dinner and fell down and broke his leg. After surgery he decided to move to the McVille Care Center. All the residents and staff were so happy to have him move in. He still baked cookies and bars for everyone and was voted to become King.

Harvey will be missed so much by his 3 sisters Adeline, Phyllis and Linda, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. No matter where we took him, he always would know someone.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at New Luther Valley Free Lutheran Church, McVille, ND. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral, at the church.

Burial will be at Norway Cemetery, rural McVille.
